Hydrogen Peroxide

Updated: Feb 14, 2023

If you’ve known me for any length of time, you know that I prefer natural and holistic cures to RX and antibiotics to cure what ails ya. You’ve likely also been prescribed various suspect sounding treatments and cures for things such as the common cold.

Trust me when I say I’ve used them all with great success and would never suggest anything that is unsafe or won’t work. I’ve been in the unfortunate position of living in a province other than the one I was born in where my BC health care didn’t cover me and being a new resident, health care of that province didn’t kick in for a few months. So I got to know quick and effective natural treatments real quick.

Most people balk at the suggestion to use non-conventional remedies and will opt to get the cold. That’s fine, some people don’t mind being sick. You get time off work, you get to Netflix in your pjs for a couple of days. It’s like a mini vacation really.

But if you’re like me and can’t stand being under the weather for even a day, you’ll want to hear me out. I’ve had one cold in the past 15 years and I’m pretty sure it’s because I drank out of the same water bottle as a very sick person.

So, if you’re like me, and don’t have time to be sick, or don’t like it, or just prefer to take your health into your own hands, peroxide is something you should have on hand. Always.

At first sign of a cold , gargle with peroxide a couple of times a day. Be especially sure to do this before bed as your night time mouth has a lot of time for bacteria (or virus ) to grow.

If you don’t mine the taste of garlic, also eat a couple of cloves of it raw . You can chew it up, like a champ, add it to your soups, minced, or cut it into tiny pieces and swallow with water like it was a pill. You won’t smell great, but the antibacterial properties will Kill all the bad bugs in you.

As far as the peroxide gargle goes, it’s like Buckley’s. Tastes awful, but it works. Your mouth will foam up and that in itself is a little unpleasant, but cutting the duration of your cold down to just a day rather than 7-10 or not getting sick at all is worth a little unpleasantry, right?

Gargling with hydrogen peroxide may help a sore throat in several ways. Hydrogen peroxide has antibacterial properties. It can help your body fight off bacterial infections that often cause sore throats.

In addition, when the mucus in your mouth comes into contact with hydrogen peroxide, it creates a foam. This foam makes the mucus less sticky and easier to drain. It can also help to loosen the mucus in your throat, which can cause irritation and pain.

But for any of you sceptics and non believers, don’t take my word for it. here is some info to back me up! Much excellent research has been done on the medical uses of hydrogen peroxide as far back as 1914!

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound that combines hydrogen with oxygen. You can buy it at most drug stores and use it for everything from disinfecting wounds to cleaning your bath tub. Hydrogen peroxide helps kill bacteria by releasing oxygen, which alters the environment of anaerobic bacteria and inhibits their growth.

Follow these steps for safe gargling:

Start with a 3% concentration of hydrogen peroxide. This is the strength you’ll find in a brown bottle at most drug stores. Next, combine one part hydrogen peroxide with two parts water. Your final mix will have a concentration of 1% hydrogen peroxide.

Tilt your head back and take a small mouthful of your hydrogen peroxide and water mix. Gargle and swish the mixture around in your mouth for 60 seconds. (You can use a timer or count silently in your head to 60 while gargling.) Spit the solution out after gargling. Don’t try to gargle the mixture for more than 90 seconds.

DO NOT SWALLOW.

Ingesting undiluted hydrogen peroxide can burn your internal organs and cause internal bleeding. However, don’t worry if you accidentally swallow some diluted hydrogen peroxide, such as the 3% solution widely available at drug stores. You’ll likely only notice some mild stomach pain. You may also vomit a slightly foamy substance, which is normal.

After gargling hydrogen peroxide, you might notice some redness around your gums or irritation on the inside of your mouth. This should go away within a few hours of gargling.

Hydrogen peroxide has been used as a natural remedy for earaches for many years. To use this method of treatment, place several drops of hydrogen peroxide into the affected ear. Let it sit for several minutes before letting it drain into a sink. Rinse your ear with clean, distilled water.

No other chemical compound comes even close to hydrogen peroxide in its effectiveness, low cost, easy availability and importance in every day life.

Use this product regularly in order to get the greatest benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time(s) each day.

Hydrogen peroxide is only one of the many components that help regulate the amount of oxygen getting to your cells. Its presence is vital for many other functions as well. It is required for the production of thyroid hormone and sexual hormones. (Mol Cell Endocrinol 86;46(2): 149-154) (Steroids 82;40(5):5690579). It stimulates the production of interferon (J Immunol 85;134(4):24492455). It dilates blood vessels in the heart and brain (Am J Physiol 86;250 (5 pt 2): H815-821 and (2 pt 2):H157-162). It improves glucose utilization in diabetics (Proceedings of the IBOM Conference 1989, 1990, 1991). The closer you look at hydrogen peroxide, the less surprising it becomes that it can help such a wide variety of conditions.

The following is only a partial listing of conditions in which H202 therapy has been used successfully. (Many of these conditions are serious, if not life-threatening. As always, I would highly recommend seeking the advice and guidance of a doctor experienced in the use of these techniques.)

Grades of Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is available in various strengths and grades.

A) 3.5% Pharmaceutical Grade: This is the grade sold at your local drugstore or supermarket. This product is not recommended for internal use. It contains an assortment of stabilizers which shouldn't be ingested. Various stabilizers include: acetanilide, phenol, sodium stanate and tertrasodium phosphate.

B) 6% Beautician Grade: This is used in beauty shops to color hair and is not recommended for internal use.

C) 30% Reagent Grade: This is used for various scientific experimentation and also contains stabilizers. It is also not for internal use.

D) 30% to 32% Electronic Grade: This is used to clean electronic parts and not for internal use.

E) 35% Technical Grade: This is a more concentrated product than the Reagent Grade and differs slightly in that phosphorus is added to help neutralize any chlorine from the water used to dilute it.

F) 35% Food Grade: This is used in the production of foods like cheese, eggs, and whey-containing products. It is also sprayed on the foil lining of aseptic packages containing fruit juices and milk products. THIS IS THE ONLY GRADE RECOMMENDED FOR INTERNAL USE. It is available in pints, quarts, gallons or even drums. Various suppliers are mentioned later in this article.

G) 90%: This is used as an oxygen source for rocket fuel.

FOOD GRADE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE:

The term “food-grade hydrogen peroxide (H2o2),” is defined as being free from these dangerous chemicals and toxic materials, which means that there is nothing added to the hydrogen peroxide, so it does not contain any added chemicals, stabilizers and or toxins. Therefore, it is the cleanest and purest form of H2o2 that you can buy for your disinfecting needs.

"The Many Benefits of Hydrogen Peroxide

By Dr. David G. Williams

Posted July 17, 2003

(Original title: Hydrogen Peroxide - Curse or Cure?)

When it comes to hydrogen peroxide therapy there seems to be only two points of view. Supporters consider it one of the greatest healing miracles of all time. Those opposed feel its ingestion is exceptionally dangerous, and only the foolhardy could think of engaging in such behavior. Before either condemning or endorsing hydrogen peroxide, let's take a real close look at what we're dealing with.

If any substance is interesting, it's hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide should really be called hydrogen dioxide. Its chemical formula is H2O2. It contains one more atom of oxygen that does water (H20). By now everyone's aware of the ozone layer that surrounds the earth. Ozone consists of three atoms of oxygen (03). This protective layer of ozone is created when ultraviolet light from the sun splits an atmospheric oxygen molecule (02) into two single, unstable oxygen atoms. These single molecules combine with others to form ozone (03). Ozone isn't very stable. In fact, it will quickly give up that extra atom of oxygen to falling rainwater to form hydrogen peroxide (H202). (Bear with me: all this chemistry mumbo jumbo I'm going through actually will help you understand the importance of hydrogen peroxide.)"

Medical uses for 35 percent hydrogen peroxide

There are a variety of home medical remedies based on dilutions of food grade hydrogen peroxide that, although unsupported by research, are suggested by some supporters of alternative medical treatments.

These home remedies include:

  • disinfecting small cuts and scrapes

  • gargling to treat sore throat

  • treating acne

  • soaking boils

  • treating foot fungus

  • softening calluses and corns

  • treating ear infections

  • killing skin mites

  • whitening nails

Some advocates of food grade hydrogen peroxide for alternative health practices justify their position with the theory that disease is fueled by low levels of oxygen in the body.

Advocates recommend food grade hydrogen peroxide — in an assortment of dilutions — for maladies including virus, bacteria, fungal infections, cancer, allergies, emphysema, AIDS, warts, lupus, arthritis, diabetes, mold toxicity, and others.

FOOD GRADE HYDROGEN PEROXIDE PROTOCOL Purging schedule for 35%

Dilute the drops into 5 ounces of distilled water (total of 15 ounces per day)

For more serious problems you may stay at 25 drops, 3 times per day, for 1-3 weeks.

Next, graduate down to 25 drops, 2 times per day until the problem is taken care of.

This may take from 1-6 months. Don’t give up

The makeup of hydrogen peroxide is distilled water with an extra molecule of oxygen attached which formulates H20

+ 0 = H202. H202 destroys microorganisms 5,000 times faster than chlorine. It is effective against all of the bacteria, which chlorines can remove, and exceeds chlorine in neutralizing pathogens, viruses and cysts. Unlike chlorine, H202 is environmentally friendly because its waste by product is only oxygen and water.

Father Richard Willhelm:

"We are just beginning to learn exactly how H202 works. It was reported to work as far back as 1920. The English medical journal, Lancet, then reported that intravenous infusion was used successfully to treat pneumonia in the epidemic following World War I. In the 1940's Father Richard Willhelm, the pioneer in promoting peroxide use, reported on the compound being used extensively to treat everything from bacterial-related mental illness to skin disease and polio.

Father Willhelm is the founder of "Educational Concern for Hydrogen Peroxide" (ECHO, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public on the safe use and therapeutic benefits of hydrogen peroxide.) Much of the interest in hydrogen peroxide waned in the 1940's when prescription medications came on the scene. Since that time there has been little economic interest in funding peroxide research. After all, it is dirt cheap and non-patentable. Even still, in the last 25 years, over 7,700 articles relating to hydrogen peroxide have been written in the standard medical journals. Thousands more, involving its therapeutic use, have appeared in alternative health publications. The number of conditions helped by hydrogen peroxide is astounding. The reported dangers and side effects are few and often conflicting."

WARNING, SAFETY & STORAGE TIPS

Accidents can occur with H202concentrate when safety precautions are not taken and directions are not followed.

For this reason, we want to stress some safety and storage tips. Read them carefully and review the way you handle

the concentrate to determine whether changes must be made with your handling procedure. When handling 35%

H202, have water immediately accessible in case of accidents.

1. Keep 35% H202 concentrate out of the reach of children.

2. Never transfer the concentrate into unlabeled or improperly labeled containers.

3. I f 35% H202 concentrate is accidentally spilled on the skin, flush the area immediately with

running water. May cause blindness if splashed in eyes, flush immediately with water.

4. If 35% H202 concentrate is accidentally ingested, drink large amounts of water to dilute. Stay upright and

contact your doctor. It could be toxic or fatal if swallowed at full strength. For best storage 35% H202 should be kept cool, refrigerated, or in freezer.

DILUTION: To make a 3% solution: mix 11 ounces of distilled or reverse osmosis water with 1 ounce of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide.
